To obtain a certified copy of a divorce decree:
Please allow one (1) week for a certified decree to be processed & mailed to you prior to contacting the divorce office. Repeated telephone calls slow down the process. Thank you.

1. Send money order payable to "Prothonotary" for the total amount due (each certified copy is $5.00).

2. Send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to return the requested certified copy to you.

3. Include a brief note listing the divorce case number (if available), both yours and your ex-spouse's names at the time of the divorce, and the year the divorce was filed.

  • Applicants should take the necessary steps to obtain a marriage license two (2) to three (3) weeks prior to the scheduled date of their marriage ceremony.
  • The groom and bride must both appear with their driver’s licenses; and if they have been divorced, must be able to provide the date of their last divorce.
  • When you apply for a marriage license, you take such with you that same day, although the license is not valid until three (3) days after the application is taken.
  • The marriage license is valid for sixty (60) days from date it is issued.
  • Please note that if you cannot speak English, an independent translator must accompany the applicants.
  • If you are getting married in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you may apply for a marriage license in any County within the Commonwealth.  Please note, if you are being married in another state you may not apply for a marriage license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • The fee to apply for a marriage license in Potter County, Pennsylvania is $50 cash or money order only.
